Steven W. Lapiska
Steve Lapiska has always been something of a gypsy at heart. Born in Maryland, Lapinska's childhood was spent growing up in towns throughout the United States. He also spent six years in Europe.
In keeping with most of F. Scott's staff, Lapinska's entrance into hospitality came later in life. As a young man, his goal was acting. He attended NYU, but left after three years to join the Pace Theatrical Group. He toured with the company for many years, appearing in numerous productions.
It was during his acting career that Lapinska's managerial talent surfaced; he was named Producing Director at Springside Inn Theatre in Auburn, New York, and The Rocky Mountain Theatre Festival in Colorado. In1989, while Marketing Director for The Aurora Fox Performing Arts Center, Lapinska was on vacation, having lunch with a friend, the owner of Squeaky Bob Wheeler's Grille in Grand Lake, Colorado. Hearing his friend commiserate about the lack of staff during a holiday weekend, Steve volunteered to help out. A new career was born.
From 1989 to 1992, Steve worked through every position at Squeaky Bob's, finally being named general manager in 1991. After the restaurants' sale in 1992, Steve held management positions at The Mountain Inn and Daven Haven Lodge in Colorado.
In 1993, Lapinska moved to Crossville, Tennessee. There he worked as general manager at The Stonehenge Country Club's restaurant and managed the front of the house at Stonehaus Winery's Halcyon Days. On moving to Nashville in 1995, he joined the Wild Boar. While there, Steve participated in dinners with acclaimed chefs Bob Waggoner, Dean Feering and Alain Ducasse. The restaurant also received the coveted AAA's Five Diamond Award and was rated Four Stars by Mobile.
Steve left the Wild Boar in 2001 to become the Maitre'd at Magnolias, in Franklin, Tennessee, but returned the same year as the Boars' marketing and special events director. In 2003 Steve was named general manager at Deer Park Grille in Green Hills. He joined the F. Scott's team in 2005.
Today, Lapinska is F. Scott's general manager. And if you ask him, he's pretty happy here in Nashville. But while he isn't backpacking through Europe anymore, he still has a gypsy's soul. He also has some pretty good stories. Next time you see him, ask him about the Tower of Pisa incident. It's a doozy.
